Acquiring and recording of collections in GLAM sector institutions 2700-P1GIEZ-SPNMIDK
The course is designed to prepare participants to manage the collection in GLAM institutions. Collection management is a multi-stage process partially regulated by the regulations applicable to GLAM institutions. Participants will be aware of the principles of conducting a policy of collecting, introducing records and a cataloging system or implementing changes to the solutions used so far. This will be done through the discussion of the legal framework, standards and good practices governing record keeping. Participants of the course will also gain knowledge about the need to select appropriate solutions and create individual internal standards tailored to the needs and organizational and financial capabilities of a given institution, bearing in mind the lack of clarity of general provisions and the subject of individual types of collections to various regulations.
Issues related to:
1) the role of the GLAM institution in the process of shaping the standards of the art and antiquities market,
2) shaping the policy of gathering a given institution and its importance,
3) purchasing collections for the collection in the form of donations, purchases or transfers, accepting objects for deposit,
4) recording and cataloging (compiling collections),
5) de-accession, control of documentation with the actual state, reinventory taking,
6) internal and external movement of objects and their safe movement,
7) as well as sharing data, including in connection with the implementation of the act on the re-use of public sector information.
Participants will also learn about the types of internal documents governing the management of collections.

Learning outcomes
After completing the course, the student knows the rules of shaping the policy of collecting, inventorying, digitizing, securing and sharing collections. He knows and applies the principles of collecting collections, is able to properly conduct the process of acquiring and documenting collections, their selection, recording and control.
He knows the rules of movement and sharing of collections as well as the techniques and rules of storing and sharing collections in cultural heritage institutions.

KNOWLEDGE
- Knows and understands various ways of understanding culture as the subject scope of the sciences on cultural heritage institutions, the theory, methodology and terminology of the functioning of GLAM sector institutions and the use of new media, as well as their place in the humanities system, its subject and methodological specificity and place in system of sciences and relations to other disciplines
- Knows and understands legal provisions in the field of copyright, legal regulations in the area of GLAM sector institutions and the protection of cultural goods.
- Has knowledge of the main directions of development and new achievements in the functioning of cultural heritage institutions.
SKILLS
- Can identify the constituent parts of culture, carry out their critical analysis and interpretation in order to create a collection in the area of cultural heritage, organization of exhibitions and presentations using new media and a foreign language.
- Has the ability to prepare written works and prepare the scenario of exhibitions and presentations using various sources from the area of GLAM institution activity and the ability to communicate with various audiences using specialized terminology.
OTHER COMPETENCES
- Can define priorities for the implementation of tasks defined by himself or others, goals of the cultural heritage institutions and their mission.
- Has a sense of responsibility for the protection and preservation of cultural heritage, actively participates in cultural life, using the available opportunities.
Assessment criteria
Continuous assessment based on substantive preparation for classes and activity during classes.
The condition for completing the course is obtaining a sufficient number of attendance, activity and completing a written test. Returning work within the prescribed period.
It is not possible to correct positive ratings.
