Research Methods (II) 2700-M-IN-Z2MB2
During the course, in addition to getting acquainted with the individual stages of the research process, selected methodologies used in media sciences and social communication, in particular in book and information science, and more broadly in social sciences, will be discussed.
The following issues will be discussed:
- Typographic and provenance methods, as well as analysis of historical sources.
- Bibliometric method, citation analysis, bibliometry and scienceometry.
- Case study.
- Ethnography - traditional, visual and virtual.
The classes will also discuss ethical issues in social research. The basic obligations of the researcher and ethical principles will be presented, which will be illustrated with historical examples of research.
During the classes, the following will be considered, among others methods of preparing various types of queries, selection of tools for research needs, methods of preserving knowledge,
principles of group work in the perspective of various scientific tasks, issues
research motivation and planning.

After completing the course, the student:
K_W01 Knows and understands the specific subject and methodological specificity of book and information science as a subdiscipline of social communication and media sciences, its latest achievements and main development trends.
K_W03 Knows and understands the methodology of research in the field of book and information science as a sub-discipline of social communication and media sciences.
K_U02 Can formulate and solve research problems, select methods and tools for solving them (including advanced information and communication techniques), synthesize various ideas and points of view using the knowledge of book and information science and related disciplines appropriate for the field of study.
K_K01 Is ready to recognize the importance of knowledge in solving research and practical problems and to carry out a critical assessment of own knowledge.
K_K02 Is ready to recognize the importance of knowledge in solving research and practical problems, use the knowledge and experience of others, and carry out a critical assessment of knowledge presented in various types of information sources, in the field of book and information science.
Assessment criteria
The basis for passing is the preparation of written papers, sketches of research projects on selected topics. Students' knowledge will be verified at the end of the class as part of an oral answer.
One unexcused and one excused absence per semester is allowed. The student has the opportunity to make up for the absence by oral completion of the topic discussed in the class.
It is not possible to correct positive ratings.
