Concepts of impact and change (introduction to the issues of media impact research; social history of media, media and journalism in the social system).
Review of the theory of impact (functional approach, views on the effects of mass communication, the hypothesis of the agenda, the theory of the spiral of silence).
Selected mechanisms of creating an image of the world by the media (mediatized consciousness, simulacrum of contemporary culture).
From Literacy to Post-literacy.

As a result of education, the student:
/ knowledge /
- knows the stages of social media development, - recognizes the principles of media impact on society and culture (in a diachronic and synchronous perspective),
- knows the basic theories of impact and uses the appropriate terminology.
/skills/
- knows how to connect knowledge about media development with cultural changes,
- is able to identify and explain the role of media in culture, - independently comments and interprets the dependencies of media and social life.
/ social competences / - understands the importance of media for the development of civilization,
- appreciates the role of the media in the process of preserving cultural heritage.
Assessment criteria
The course ends with a credit with a grade.
Pass in writing (final test) and / or oral (final interview).
The final form of the credit (written or oral) will be determined by mid-December.
