During the lecture, students will be acquainted with the state and conditions of IT development in relation to the media and their online functioning. The history of the creation of the internet and its evolution mainly in the technological aspect is presented. Socio-economic aspects caused by the progress of online communication are discussed. The elements that have a significant impact on the media and their network evolution are emphasized. Current data on the condition and conditions of the Internet network are presented - globally and in the national perspective.
The most important technological aspects of online communication are discussed, basic software tools for collecting, processing and transmitting digital information. The essence of systems and standards of advanced IT tools is emphasized. The issues of various scale of computer networks (LAN, MAN, WAN) and IT security are highlighted. The future use of computers and mechanisms for effective information retrieval and positioning are also signaled.
Also discussed are social aspects such as the principles of netiquette and the fight against spam, the development of communication from Web 1.0 to Web 4.0, the role of social networking in the evolution of the media. The importance of issues related to the security of using online resources was emphasized.
The course also covers economic issues such as the evolution of media business in the global network (e.g. use of Big Data and Open Data, AI). The basic elements of e-PR functioning and the basics of online advertising systems are discussed.

Prerequisites (description)

The student is to become familiar with the basics of the Internet network from the technological side as well as the social aspects of online communication. Knowledge is to be an introduction to acquiring skills to work in a media organization in which the Internet is an important platform for interaction between the publisher and the recipient.

- knows the rules of netiquette and the basics of fighting spam and other phishing / information phishing mechanisms
- has knowledge about trends in the development of the Internet
- knows the basics of e-PR functioning and the basics of online advertising systems.

- the graduate has the skills in the practical use of technology (hardware and software) supporting media companies
- has the ability to critically assess the assumptions for building the foundations of media functioning on the Internet.

- the graduate has competences regarding the functioning of media organizations in the field of IT fundamentals.

Assessment criteria

Test on the e-learning platform. Additional activity on the platform Kampus (work performed in accordance with the recommendations) may increase the final score.
Grading scale. Points / Ratings : 00-12 (2); 12,5-15 (3); 15,5-16,5 (3+); 17-18,5 (4); 19-19,5 (4+); 20-20,5 (5); 21 (6). Inability to improve the positive grade.
