The issues covered during the lectures include:
1. Language as a character system. Language functions.
2. Language construction. An overview of the terminology useful in further stages of studies.
4. Polish language, related languages, language families in Europe, world languages. Variations of the Polish language. Geographical and chronological differentiation of language. Regionalisms. Dialogue of generations.
5. Outline of the history of the Polish language. Current language situation, Polish language law.
6. Basic issues in the field of punctuation and spelling.
7. Learning about language

9. Foreign language borrowings from a historical perspective, Contemporary borrowings from English.
10. Manipulation and linguistic persuasion. The language of hatred.
11. The phenomenon of language stereotype. The language of advertising. Language joke. Internet language.
12. Language tabs, censorship. Euphemisms.
13. Language clinics and dictionaries useful in the work of a journalist. Construction of a dictionary entry. Types of qualifiers. Language Observatory of the University of Warsaw. Game slowodoslowa.pwn.pl. Understanding text - the "Jasnopis" program.
14. Journalistic stylistics and basic editorial issues.

After completing the course, students:
KNOWLEDGE:
The student knows and is able to aptly characterize the basic problems related to the issues specified in the description. He knows where and how to find help in the case of language problems bothering him.
SKILLS:
He can solve basic issues related to journalistic language (eg variation of names, issues of correct pronunciation and writing).
