Media and politics 2700-L-DM-D4MEPO-DZI
The course presents knowledge of basic definitions and theories in the field of media studies and politics. During classes, students will acquire knowledge on how to describe, analyse and generalise political and post-political phenomena and their presentation by various media; how to use media studies in research and practical activities; how to compare images and portrayals of political institutions and processes in the media.
Phenomena analysed will include the mediatisation of politics and politicisation of the media, phenomena of disinformation, propaganda, media tribalism, issues of historical politics, use of social media by politicians.

After completing the course, students:
KNOWLEDGE:
1. Is able to define basic concepts in the field of media studies.
2. Has knowledge of the processes related to the mediatisation of politics and politicisation of media.
3. Is familiar with the indicated literature on the subject.
SKILLS:
1. Be able to analyse politicians' communication processes with the public.
2. Is able to analyse media messages for their persuasiveness and truthfulness (fact-checking).
3. Is proficient in the use of terminology.
OTHER COMPETENCES:
1. Knows and understands the importance of research on communication processes in politics.
2. Is able to reliably assess the strengths and weaknesses of politicians in their communication processes with the public.
