Information technologies of media 2700-L-DM-D3TIME
The aim of the lecture is to familiarize students with the state and conditions of IT development in relation to the media.
The student learns the basics of digital recording, forms of recording information in binary / bit (with emphasis on multimedia), units in which they are expressed. Knowledge also includes character encoding in a binary system. The course includes a discussion of the principles of operation of basic, modern IT tools (hardware and software).
The construction and basics of the computer as a set and broken down into its elements with their diagnosis and benchmarking are presented. Methods of computer communication with peripheral devices were described, together with the introduction to the functioning of the category extending its capabilities.
The course also includes presenting trends in technology development, such as work on supercomputers, quantum computers, artificial intelligence. Knowledge also covers basic issues related to network communication, such as servers, hosting and communication technologies.
The course presents an outline of cloud services along with their pros and cons. The student will also learn the basics of software used in IT, such as operating systems, media editors, programs supporting management, database basics, digital communication security and application software supporting everyday use of IT.

After completing the course student:
KNOWLEDGE:
• knows the current status and conditions of IT use and development in relation to the media,
• knows the forms of information recording in digital media (multimedia) of its compression, archiving, processing,
• knows the functions and terminology of IT tools for daily use (hardware, software, other digital communication)
• knows the essence of computer programming,
• knows the essence of computer networks,
• know the principles of database design, software IT tools,
• knows the problems of IT security (hackers, viruses, dishonest employees, firewall, identity, security, digital wireless communications).
Skills:
• select appropriate information technology to work as a journalist,
• define hazards and their mitigation in the field of IT security
Other competences:
• ability to specify the infrastructure requirements and hardware functions and software,
• ability to critically evaluate the available ICT solutions for the media.
Assessment criteria
Test on the e-learning platform.
Grading scale. Points / Ratings : 00-12 (2); 12,5-15 (3); 15,5-16,5 (3+); 17-18,5 (4); 19-19,5 (4+); 20-20,5 (5); 21 (6). Inability to improve the positive grade.
