Fundamentals of authority control 2700-L-API-Z2PKS
The course aims to provide students with an overview of roles, features and the fundamentals of designing selected vocabulary control tools such as lists, authority files (Library of Congress, Biblioteka Narodowa), and thesauri. The professional terminology, the methods of using and constructing are presented. In addition, the course covers the fundamentals of indexing information resources.

After completing the course, students:
KNOWLEDGE:
- know the vocabulary control terminology (K_W03).
- know the procedure for indexing and the rules and tools of vocabulary control (K_W06).
SKILLS:
- are capable of using vocabulary control terminology in order to solve a problem with access to information resources (K_U01).
- are capable of pointing and using vocabulary control tools to create the description of a document and find a relevant information resource (K_U03).
OTHER COMPETENCES:
- can critically assess and develop their skills in indexing information resources (K_K01).
Assessment criteria
1. Attendance:
a) full - 25%;
b) one absence - 20%;
c) two absences - 15%;
d) three absences and more - 0%.
2) Creation of thesaurus - up to 75%.
Final grades:
5: 91-100%
4,5: 81-90%
4: 71-80%
3,5: 61-70%
3: 50-60%
Final positive grades cannot be improved.
