The course aims to provide students with basic skills in indexing of different types of documents such as text documents and images. Students familiarize themselves with different conceptions of subject analysis, thesauri: UNESCO Thesaurus, Thesaurus for Graphic Materials and Getty vocabularies: Art & Architecture Thesaurus, The Cultural Objects Name Authority, The Getty Iconography Authority, The Getty Thesaurus of Geographic Names, and The Union List of Artist Names. They also index selected text documents and images.

Learning outcomes
After completing the course, students:
KNOWLEDGE:
- know methods of analysis and interpretation of different information resources, compliant with different theories in the library and information science (K_W04).
- know the procedures and tools enabling people and machines to access information resources, especially in terms of generating and using document metadata (K_W06).
SKILLS:
- are capable of correctly generating metadata for different types of documents (K_U03).
OTHER COMPETENCES:
- can critically assess and develop their skills in using information resources (K_K01).
Assessment criteria
1. Attendance:
a) full - 25%;
b) one absence - 20%;
c) two absences - 15%;
d) three absences and more - 0%.
2) Written test - up to 75%.
Final grades:
5: 91-100%
4,5: 81-90%
4: 71-80%
3,5: 61-70%
3: 50-60%
Final positive grades cannot be improved.
