The aim of the course is to familiarize students with the research issues of both traditional and modern information science. During the course students will learn about research problems within the information architecture research field i the context of other research areas in modern information science.
During the lecture the following issues will be addressed:
1. The roots of information science and factors influencing its development;
2. The process of shaping information science: evolution and changes in research paradigms
3. Information Science as an academic discipline; interdisciplinary science of information
4. Main concepts and research categories of information science
5. Models of research and areas of research in information science; main type of research problems
6. Directions of research in contemporary information science
7. Information architecture as an area of information science research
Following issues will be discussed during the practical part of the course:
1. Information society - what it is, how it was created, it's features
2. The role of data in the modern society
3. The scholarly paper as a genre
4. Dictionaries and encyclopedias for researchers of information science
5. Information in our life or in other words a different approach to the fields of information science
