The aim of the course is to familiarize students with issues concerning human and civil rights and freedoms in the Republic of Poland.
The first part of the course is devoted to introductory issues: the concept, origin, and sources of rights and freedoms, as well as the identification of their addressees.
The second part presents the constitutionally guaranteed freedoms and rights, divided into personal, political, and socio-economic and cultural rights.
The third part of the course concerns legal measures enabling the protection of the individual’s interests and position within the state, as well as the institution of the Commissioner for Human Rights (Ombudsman).

Upon completion of the course, the student:
Knowledge and understanding:
• understands the specific nature, principles of exercising, and significance of civil rights and freedoms (K_W02),
• in an advanced way understands the principles of exercising civil rights and freedoms and their key social functions (K_W02).
Skills:
• is able to correctly interpret social, political, and legal processes occurring in the area of rights and freedoms (K_U02),
• is able to plan and organize individual and team work, as well as cooperate effectively within a team (K_U07).
Social competencies:
• is prepared to assess and critically approach situations and phenomena related to the exercise of civil rights and freedoms (K_K01),
• demonstrates entrepreneurial thinking and action (K_K04),
• adheres to professional ethical standards (K_K05).

Final test (20 multiple-choice questions)
Grading scale:
• 11–12 points – satisfactory (pass)
• 13–14 points – satisfactory plus
• 15–16 points – good
• 17–18 points – good plus
• 19–20 points – very good
