• Methods of intellectual property protection: subjects and entities of copyright law; moral and economic copyright; fields of exploitation and fair use; related rights; collective copyright management organisations; patenting (benefits and limitations, overview of national and international procedures); utility models, industrial designs and trademarks; trade secrets; know-how; protection of databases and computer programs.
• Intellectual property as a means of increasing enterprise value: intellectual property valuation techniques; costs of intellectual property protection and ways of reducing them; methods of searching for information on intellectual property.
• Intellectual property management in R&D activities: confidentiality rules and NDA (non-disclosure agreement) contracts; company rights to employee inventions and inventor remuneration rules; judicial and extrajudicial disputes concerning intellectual property; licensing and technology transfer agreements.
• Intellectual property management in consortium-based R&D projects: types of intellectual property (background, foreground, sideground); sharing research results on open access terms; transferring intellectual property rights to project partners; regulations on intellectual property in projects funded by the European Commission and the National Centre for Research and Development.

Team project work - preparation of a proposal for intellectual property protection methods related to an R&D project through practical application of techniques and tools discussed during the course.
