The course covers issues related to the functioning and management of investment funds, including:
• types of investment funds,
• organization of investment funds,
• characteristics of individual types of funds,
• rules governing the trading of units and investment certificates,
• fees charged by investment funds,
• principles for determining the net asset value (NAV) of a fund,
• financial instruments and alternative investments, including:
o real estate investments,
o investments in non-public companies (private equity),
o methods of investing in private companies,
o characteristics of private equity investments,
o factors influencing the valuation of private companies,
o valuation of private company investments,
o other alternative investments,
o investments in hedge funds.
The course also addresses issues related to green investment funds.

Upon completion of the course, the student achieves the following learning outcomes:
Knowledge
K_W01
The student has in-depth knowledge and understanding of the terminology and methodological approaches used in the analysis of the functioning of investment funds.
K_W05
The student understands complex technological, social, legal, economic and environmental processes affecting the operation of investment funds, including the development of alternative investments and green investment funds, and their importance for investment decisions and the functioning of the economy.
K_W07
The student understands the principles of establishing, organizing and developing investment funds and alternative investment ventures (including private equity, hedge funds and real estate investments) at the national and global level.
Skills
K_U01
The student is able to use knowledge from economics, finance and law to identify, diagnose and solve problems related to the functioning of investment funds, asset valuation principles, investment policy and alternative investments.
K_U02
The student is able to interpret complex legal, economic, social and environmental conditions affecting investment funds, including green investment funds, and assess their significance for investment decisions and portfolio management.

The student is able to formulate and test research hypotheses concerning the performance of investment funds and asset valuation.

The student is able to propose solutions to investment problems under conditions of uncertainty and market volatility, particularly with regard to the selection of instruments, alternative investments and investment fund strategies.

The student is able to independently and collaboratively prepare analyses, diagnoses and reports concerning the functioning of investment funds, valuation of alternative investments and green investment funds, and present and discuss them effectively using modern information and communication technologies.

Assessment criteria
Written assessment
Written exam consisting of open-ended questions, multiple-choice questions and problem-solving tasks.
Practical placement
Internship are not required for this course.
