Class 1 (2 hours): Fundamentals of self-presentation and communication
• The essence of self-presentation and its tools
• Self-presentation and communication with others
• Self-presentation in practice – first impressions, authenticity vs. image creation
• Non-verbal communication – body language, gestures, posture, eye contact
• Verbal communication – tone of voice, pace, modulation, emphasis
• Communication consistency – adapting verbal, non-verbal and other communication to the target image
• Practical exercise
Class 2 (2 hours): Public speaking and business presentations
• Structure of a speech – how to build a logical message (introduction-development-summary, problem-analysis-solution model, elevator pitch)
• Dealing with stress and difficult questions – techniques for controlling emotions
• Storytelling in business – narration as a tool for engaging audiences
• Visualisation and slides – best practices (minimum text, maximum clarity)
• Practical exercise
Classes 3-6 (4 * 2 hours): Individual public presentations – workshops
• Individual final self-presentation
• Each participant presents their prepared material to the group
• Each presentation lasts approx. 3-5 minutes
• The presentation is recorded on video and then discussed by the instructor and the group. The presenter receives feedback on their presentation
• Feedback is provided according to the following principle: the strongest points of the presentation and areas for improvement
• Approximately 7 presentations are conducted during one class
Class 7 (2 hours): Business and academic etiquette
• Business meeting etiquette – greetings, introductions, rules for conducting conversations
• Correspondence etiquette – e-mail, LinkedIn, instant messaging
• Intercultural etiquette – differences in communication styles (Europe, USA, Asia)
• Etiquette at university – communication with lecturers, behaviour on campus, representing the university in the external environment
• Practical exercise: simulation of a networking meeting (students practise conversation and self-presentation at the table)

After completing the course, the student:
In terms of knowledge:
• K_W02: describes the basic principles of self-presentation in the context of interpersonal and business communication;
• K_W02: identifies the norms of business etiquette applicable in the professional environment, both in direct and digital contacts;
• K_W02: explain the importance of personal image and its impact on professional relationships and communication effectiveness;
• K_W02: explain the cultural determinants of etiquette in an international environment.
In terms of skills, is able to:
• K_U06: communicate effectively in a professional environment, applying the principles of business etiquette and adapting the style of speech to the situational context;
• K_U07: prepare and conduct self-presentations in various forms (e.g. public speaking, online presentation, job interview), taking into account the principles of non-verbal communication;
• K_U09: analyse and interpret the communication behaviour of others, identifying elements of self-presentation and etiquette, and provide constructive feedback.
In terms of competences, is ready to:
• K_K01: critically assess their own communication and self-presentation competences and take action to improve them;
• K_K05: respect the principles of ethics and etiquette in professional relationships, demonstrating respect for cultural and social diversity and responsibility for one's own image.
Assessment criteria
Learning outcomes will be verified on an ongoing basis through tasks performed by participants during classes and, at the end, through a written assessment.
Course assessment:
• Written test – 50% of the grade
• Individual presentation – 50% of the grade
• Attendance is a prerequisite for passing the course.
Practical placement
Internship is not required to complete the course
