Formulated as the teaching effects:
Knowledge
Students:
understand what is normal and what goes beyond the norms in the Deaf culture;
know the new trends in the Deaf culture development in Poland and in the world;
understand the psychological aspects of the Deaf/HOH identity;
are aware of the division of non-verbal communications (distance, facial expression, posture, gestures) and understand the essence of expression cohesion in sign communication;
Skills
Students:
have a basic range of PJM vocabulary and know the PJM grammar rules;
know the role shift rules for sign conversations;
understand and use the colloquial expressions related to the specific everyday needs and can formulate questions using the right facial expressions related to private life, in respect of, e.g. the place where they live, the people they know and the things they have, and they can answer to this kind of questions;
understand the meaning of the main threads of the message contained in clear, standard expressions relating to the matters and events known to them, like those typical of work, school, leisure etc.;
can manage in the majority of communicative situations they may encounter during meetings with the Deaf (e.g. in the Deaf club) where PJM is used; they can also form consistent sign expressions on the subjects known to them and describe experiences, events, hopes, dreams and aims, substantiating briefly their opinions and plans.
Attitudes:
Students:
implement changes in the perception of the d/Deaf and hard-of-hearing;
are aware that there exists a risk for social oppression and discrimination based on deafness;
know the consequences of using practices that are paternalistic in character;
are familiar with the concepts of audism, ableism and handicapism;
can function as mediator/assistant in culture-based conflicts that may arise when the two worlds, the hearing world and the Deaf one, meet head-on.
