Learning outcomes
KNOWLEDGE
The student understands and is familiar with:
– the current state of research on the mental health and social functioning of transgender individuals, including key empirical findings and areas requiring further investigation;
– the developmental specificities of transgender individuals in childhood and adolescence, along with current diagnostic and clinical dilemmas;
– the diversity of transgender experiences, including the role of co-occurring factors (e.g., autism spectrum conditions) and the phenomenon of detransition.
SKILLS
The student is able to:
– interpret research findings on the mental health of transgender individuals and evaluate their methodological quality;
– incorporate legal, institutional, and social contexts (including the Polish context) into analyses of the situation of transgender individuals.
SOCIAL COMPETENCIES
The student is prepared to:
– engage in reflective and ethically sensitive consideration of the challenges faced by transgender individuals;
– critically analyze assumptions and biases related to gender and recognize their impact on the interpretation of transgender individuals’ experiences;
– incorporate the first-person perspective of transgender individuals as a significant source of knowledge.
