Clinical psychology is the field of scientific research and the area of practical activity of psy-chologists, which deals with disturbed as well as healthy manifestations of emotional, cogni-tive, behavioral and somatic functioning. This field scientifically describes and explains dis-turbed and healthy functioning, it shows pathogenetic and salutogenic mechanisms, and the practical application consists in the diagnosis of disorders or health, which becomes the basis for planning and applying psychological forms of assistance. Clinical psychology is a broad field within which many subdisciplines are distinguished. The most important of them include clinical psychology of a child and family, clinical psychology of an adult, neuropsychology, psychology of health and four forms of psychological help (prevention, crisis intervention, psychotherapy and social rehabilitation). This lecture and seminar focuses on child's clinical psychology, clinical psychology of an adult and psychological help (topics concerning other areas of clinical psychology are discussed in other obligatory classes).
The aim of the lecture is to familiarize students with the basic knowledge of the etiology and mechanisms of the mental disorders and clinical problems with an emphasis on those based on scientific evidence. Mental disorders and behavioral disorders will be presented in accordance with the international classifications ICD-10, DSM V and DC: 0-5. Students will also receive information about the emerging new ICD-11 classification. The content of the lectures includes the recognition of mental problems and their classification, the underpinnings of the mechanisms of the formation of mental disorders, the importance of theoretical models in the clinical diagnosis of mental disorders and the methods of therapeutic and psychological inter-vention. The lectures are aimed at integrating knowledge in the field of child and family psy-chology with adult clinical psychology.
The seminar aims to provide basic knowledge and skills of a comprehensive analysis of psychological problems of children, adolescents and adults in the field of diagnosis and psychological help. During the course, continuity between the development of disorders in children and the functioning of people in adulthood will be shown. Students will also have the opportunity to practice the ability to apply knowledge derived from scientific research to understand the issues of a given individual. Two contemporary ways of practicing clinical psychology - evidence-based practice (EBP) and evidence-informed practice (EIP) - will be presented. For these reasons, the axial study will be to analyze case studies. Due to this form of work, a large part of the classes will focus on selected, specific problems.
