KNOWLEDGE
After completing the course, the student:
- knows the structure and phusiology of action of neurons and glial cells
- knows the mechanism of action potential trnasmition
- knows the functioning of basic neurohormones and neurotransmitters
- knows the structure and operation of the central and peripheral nervous system
- knows the functional relationships between the activity of the central nervous system and human cognitive, motor and emotional activities
- knows mechanisms responsible for receiving external stimuli in receptors
- knows the neurophysiological mechanisms of regulating the activity of muscles and internal organs
- knows methods of psychophysiological measurement and the biological mechanisms underlying the measured variables
SKILLS
After completing the course, the student:
- can indicate on diagrams and define the structures of the peripheral and central nervous system
- can distinguish the elements of a neuron
- knows how to link the activity of internal organs with particular branches of the PNS
- knows how to connect sensory and motor phenomena with individual elements of the PNS
- knows how to combine sensory phenomena with the activity of the nervous system and receptors
- distinguishes electrophysiological signals: ECG, EMG, GSR and EEG
- can assess how changes in the level of basic neurohormones and neurotransmitters will affect human behavior and mental functioning
- can propose measurement techniques and experimental procedures to study cognitive and emotional processes
SOCIAL COMPETENCE
After completing the course, the student:
- understands that the complex nature of the links between psychological research and other areas of knowledge means that these areas are constantly evolving, which results in the need for continuous learning and updating of knowledge
- is aware of his own limitations as a psychologist and knows when the support of experts from other fields is necessary
