Term 2023L:

This is a two-day workshop where besides practical experience, students will access new theoretical knowledge through lecture and group discussions on the role of play in identity development and well-being reinforcement in adults.
In theoretical introduction the following topics will be covered:
a. Homeostatic regulation of play and its neurobiological correlates– research findings of Prof. Jaak Panksepp, a „rat tickler”.
b. Play from the perspective of developmental psychology.
c. Behavioral signs that serve regulation of play in humans and animals.
d. Implications of play for social interactions: making and breaking of rules, taking up of new roles, new ways of action.
d. „Personal play identity” construct and its elements.
e. Implications of play in clinical and therapeutic interventions. Research perspectives. Play in everyday life.
Workshop part will include role-play which will also be discussed in the group.

Learning outcomes

Student knows:
1. Basic directions in play research.
2. Basic functions of play from developmental psychology perspective.
3. Basic mechanisms of play activities from neurobiology perspective.
4. Implications of play research in the context of social and everyday life and clinical interventions.

Student can:
5. Define basic functions of play and its significance from the developmental perspective.
6. Distinct play activities and describe their basic mechanisms.
7. Use the knowledge for enhancement of well-being in everyday life.
