Term 2023L:
Social sexology focuses on that aspects of human sexuality which have critical meaning for functioning in society, such as sexual norms, stereotypes about sexuality and sex education. Social sexology is an interdisciplinary field- apart from psychological issues it includes the issues in the field of law, sociology, cultural anthropology and medicine. The course will be a workshop thus it will be focused on exercises in small groups, and individual, insight exercises. |
Term 2024L:
Day 1 Norms in sexology. Who and what decided whether a particular behaviour is "normal"? Day 2. Sex and gender. Stereotypes concerning sex and gender and their social consequences. Functioning of transgender and intersex people. Minority stress among transgender and intersex people. Causes and correlates of transprejudice. How to counteract transprejudice. Day 3. Sexual orientation. What is sexual orientation and how do we measure it? How many sexual orientations really exist? Functioning of LGB+ people. Minority stress among LGB+ people. Causes and correlates of homophobia, biphobia, aphobia. How to counteract homophobia, biphobia, aphobia. |

Knowledge
Students will know selected studies in the field of social sexology, related to the issues discussed during the course. They will be able to explain the basic notions used during the course like e.g. partnership norm or minority stress.
Skills
Students will be able to critically analyse scientific articles on sexuality, noticing strong and weak points of studies described in it. They will be able to take a critical stance toward clichés about sexuality, present in media.
Social competences
Students will be able to take a non-judgemental and non-stigmatizing look at the perspective from which non-heterosexual people, as well as others who somehow differ from the majority (e.g, people with disabilities), see intimate relationships. Students will be able to plan the actions aiming at reducing stereotypes and prejudices concerning gender and sexuality, like e.g. homonegativity or transnegativity.
