The course presents the main groups of psychoactive substances. Each group of psychoactive substances is described on specific examples and includes the following topics: historical background, formula and chemical structure, occurrence in nature, method of preparation and production, medical use, method of administration, active, toxic and lethal dose, metabolic and physiological pathways and changes, effects on human systems and organs, psychological, neuropsychological and psychiatric effects immediately after administration and delayed in time, effects on sexual activity, addictive potential and the effects of long-term use on the general physical and mental state of a person. |

Student will recognized the characteristics of the main psychoactive substances. They will be able to classify a psychoactive substance to the proper group and characterize its action on human body. They will identify main medical and psychological consequences of use of psychoactive substances.
