Term 2023Z:
During the first part of the course classical and modern psychological concepts that refer to parenting will be presented (psychodynamic, cognitive – behavioural, systemic, narrative). Through out the second part of the course, the attention will be given to the specific contexts of performing parental roles and related challanges. We will discuss the changes in parenthood that inevitably come with the child’s development as well we will put our attention to different forms of modern family structure (single parents, reconstructed families, adoptive parenting). The final problem discussed during the course will focus on the challenges of bringing together different roles in the life of an contemporay adult (employee/parent). We will look into different parental guides that are available for parents in need. |

Learning outcomes
After completing the course the student will be able to:
-Name the characteristics of the parental role according to psychological theories (psychodynamic, behavioral-cognitive, systemic).
-Describe how parents' tasks are understood in each of the theories mentioned.
- Determine the mechanisms of parental influence towards the child in accordance to mentioned theoretical approaches
- List the tasks and challenges that parents are facing while on deveopmental trajectory
- Describe the specifics of performing parental roles in different family contexts
