Introduction to human behaviour genetics 2500-PL-PS-FO4-02

The issue of the lecture covers the following specific questions:
1. The outline of the history of behavior genetics. Molecular and population genetics. Mechanisms of inheritance of traits in humans. The theory of genetic influence: a single gene model and poligenic model - an approach OGOD (One Gene, One Disorder) and QTL (Quantitative Trait Loci). Path-models of twins reared together and reared apart, the biological and adoptive families.
2. Characteristics of the genetic components of the heritability coefficient (additive, nonadditive, assortative mating, interaction and correlation of genotype and environment). Description of environmental factors (the notion of common and specific environment).
3. Heritability - the key concept of behavior genetics. Simple and complex models of heritability of traits in humans. Heritability coefficients: Falconer's formula and Holzinger’s formula. Estimation of the environmental components of phenotypic variance based on the observed heritability.
4. Methods of human behavior genetics: methods based on a study of twins, family studies and adoption studies. Diagnosis of zygosity of twins. Standard methods for the diagnosis of environmental factors.
5. General characteristics and research directions in modern human behavior genetics: heritability of temperament and other personality traits. Molecular genetics studies: general approach and indicators.
6. Heritability of intelligence: a review of major research results.
7. Genetic and environmental factors in the psychopathology and health psychology: a review of selected studies and their results. Controversies and perspectives of behavior genetics research. The importance of behavioral genetic research.
