The aim of the course is to familiarize students with difficulties in communication and social functioning in children with various developmental disorders. Neuropsychological mechanisms of difficulties in these areas of functioning will be presented. The course will also discuss models for supporting the development of communication and social skills, alternative and assisted communication methods, as well as methods for developing social skills, such as pivotal response training, video modeling, and computer aided methods for developing of these skills. |

- The student knows the mechanisms of acquiring speech and social skills
- The student knows methods of developing communication and social skills

- The student is able to distinguish communication difficulties in children with developmental disorders
- The student is able to distinguish difficulties in social functioning in children with developmental disorders
- The student is able to list the differences between individual methods of developing communication skills
SOCIAL COMPETENCE
- The student is ready to distinguish methods based on scientific evidence from alternative methods in developing communication and social skills
