"The course focuses on the role of language and communication in a child’s psychological development and the significance of language difficulties in psychological practice. The aim of the course is to develop the ability to recognize when a child’s observed difficulties are language-based rather than emotional, cognitive, or social. The course covers language development norms, the presentation of language difficulties, and how to distinguish them from other neurodevelopmental disorders. The classes also address practical aspects of diagnosis: conducting an interview, observing the child, drawing conclusions, and planning support for the child and their family." |

"KNOWLEDGE
The student knows and understands:
- the role of language and communication in a child’s psychological development and their significance for cognitive, emotional, and social functioning;
- the nature of language difficulties in children, including their diversity and links to other neurodevelopmental and emotional disorders;
- the fundamentals of psychological diagnosis in the context of language difficulties, including the capabilities and limitations of the methods used;
- the importance of interdisciplinary collaboration and the role of the psychologist in the support system for the child and their family.
SKILLS
The student is able to:
- plan a diagnostic procedure for a child with language difficulties and formulate diagnostic conclusions;
- recognize when a child’s difficulties may have a linguistic basis and differentiate them from other developmental problems;
- conduct an interview and observation of the child, taking communication aspects into account;
- communicate diagnostic conclusions and recommendations in a manner appropriate to the audience (parents, teachers, other specialists);
- plan interventions to support the child and their environment, in collaboration with other specialists.

The student is prepared to:
- take into account the needs of the child and their family and respect diversity in psychological practice;
- collaborate with other professionals to provide comprehensive support to the child;
- responsibly formulate diagnostic conclusions and recommendations, taking into account the limitations of their own competencies;

- communicate in an attentive, supportive, and ethical manner when interacting with the child and their environment."
