Contemporary research reveals that meditation is more than relaxation - it is a conscious exercise of awareness that challenges our assumptions about self, perception and value. Philosophical insights reveal that meditation connects phenomenology with ethics, metaphysics and epistemology offering unique insights into how the mind creates meanings and norms. Familiarizing ourselves with texts from the field of philosophy of meditation, we will take an interdisciplinary journey in which meditation becomes an object of cognition understood as a source of ethics and personal transformation. Learning outcomes
Knowledge (student knows and understands):
- The philosophical basis of meditation including Eastern and Western traditions;
- The social and cultural significance of meditation;
- key philosophical terms and concepts and their application to psychology;
- the meaning and nature (essence) of meditation in general;
- the methods of meditation and the problems associated with them;
- the importance of meta-scientific (metapsychological) reflection on meditation as an object of study.
Skills (student can):
- conduct independent reasoning and responsible critical thinking in the problem area of the philosophy of meditation;
- analyze problems related to the philosophy of meditation;
- synthesize, summarize and refer to the studied views in written and oral form;
- apply key terms in the philosophy of meditation;
- reflect on the cultural and historical foundations of meditation as a phenomenon of scientific (psychological) importance.
- clearly and concisely refer (for both specialists and laymen) to problems, ideas and theories in the field of philosophy of meditation;
- meditate independently.
Competencies (the student is ready to):
- self-education in meta-scientific (metapsychological) reflection in the area of philosophy of meditation (taking meditation into account in academic didactics);
- self-reflection on the social and cultural significance of meditation;
- further study of philosophy in terms of developing psychology as a science (formulating new research problems, clearly defining the problem situation, working on a master's thesis, doctorate) taking into account the achievements of the philosophy of meditation (meditation as an object of research).
- Further develop an academic (and non-academic) career and further independent education in the field of philosophy of meditation.
