This course is an inter-university educational initiative between the Faculty of Psychology, University of Warsaw (Prof. Marcin Rzeszutek), the Institute of Communication Sciences, Maria Curie-Skłodowska University (UMCS), and the National Film Archive – Audiovisual Institute in Warsaw (Prof. Barbra Giza). Its primary goal is to disseminate and promote film studies among the student community at the Faculty of Psychology, University of Warsaw, by presenting the course creators' unique perspective on the history of cinema. Specifically, during a given year, the Academy will discuss several specially selected films representing milestones in the development of world cinema. Students will watch these films at home and then discuss them in class, focusing on the film studies, cultural, psychological, and existential issues they raise. The Academy also aims to present film representations of selected psychological issues, i.e., how film and cinema can be used in various branches of psychology, from both a theoretical-research and a practical-clinical perspective. The course culminates in students writing their own emotional history of cinema. |
