Learning outcomes
Knowledge
After completing the course students:
- know basic, as well as advanced terms connected to the phenomena of trauma and traumatic stress
- understand the role of personality as well as social support in the etiology of posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD)
- understand the phenomenon of posttraumatic growth (PTG) and its determinants
- know the most important methods of psychotherapy of PTSD and ways of promoting PTG
Competences
After completing the course students are able to:
- highlight all PTSD diagnostic criteria in DSM and ICD
- mention the most important PTG models
- critically evaluate important cultural factors, which influenced the impact of trauma on humans and society
Attitudes
After completing the course students:
- realize social advantages of scientific studies on trauma and PTSD
- are more sensitive to people after traumatic events
- accept positive changes following trauma and adversity
