Prerequisites (description)
Prerequisites
Students should have taken coursework on clinical psychology and neuropsychological assessment.
Students must respect the principles of academic integrity. Cheating and
plagiarism (including copying work from other students, internet or other
sources) are serious violations that are punishable and instructors are
required to report all cases to the administration.
Students must prepare their own written work without the help of AI.
Learning outcomes
Students will be able to
1. Describe the various ways that neuropsychology informs the courts
during both criminal and civil legal proceedings.
2. Identify the specific legal questions that could be informed by
psychological and neuropsychological data.
3. Distinguish between the legal concepts of competency and sanity.
4. Explain the concept of malingering and the science of lie detection.
5. Summarize the evidence linking neurobiology to crime.
6. Examine the ethical dilemmas inherent in forensic work.
