Data Visualization and Analytical Dashboards 2400-ZL2WD
The course is intended for students who are familiar with Excel, work with large datasets or frequently create data visualisations in the form of management dashboards, and who wish to learn how to import, process and present data quickly and effectively, as well as how to create various types of reports. The course is delivered in MS Excel using Business Intelligence add-ins. These tools offer significant advantages, primarily in terms of speed, performance and interactivity, compared with the standard functionality of a spreadsheet. Knowledge of Microsoft Excel BI tools is an essential component of the skill set of employees working with data.
The course covers the following thematic modules:
1. Power Query, a tool enabling efficient importing, transforming and combining of data: importing various data formats, including Excel workbooks, text files, CSV files and Access databases; automating import refresh; loading imported data into a worksheet or data model; transforming imported data, including operations on columns containing dates, numerical data and text; transforming data layout, including transposition and unpivoting columns; defining custom fields; and combining data and tables.
2. Power Pivot, a tool used for comprehensive creation of a data model on the basis of which reports and summaries are generated, including pivot tables: constructing a data model from various data sources, creating relationships, inserting user-defined calculated fields and calculated items, creating pivot tables based on the data model, and using the DAX language.
3. Power Map, a tool used to visualise data on maps: the built-in geolocation tool, loading custom maps, appropriate preparation of data for maps, creating various types of map-based data visualisations and managing their elements, working with data at the level of countries, voivodeships and counties, with specially prepared maps provided to participants for their own use, and saving maps both in the traditional way and as MP4 videos.
4. Case-study tasks demonstrating the comprehensive use of the Business Intelligence tools covered in the course and the creation of reports in Excel.
5. Analytical dashboards, including the creation of management dashboards and complete applications in Excel: the concept of dashboards and discussion of methods for designing them clearly; development of the overall design of an Excel application; creation of fully automated reporting tools; presentation of various forms of results display; preparation of user manuals and technical documentation; and evaluation of tools developed by others, based on examples published at: https://labmasters.pl/aplikacje/.
