Understanding the mechanisms of digital transformation in enterprises.

Course topics:
Introduction to digital transformation – concepts, mechanisms, significance of data and automation.
Automation and the future of employment – enterprise use of AI and automation in managing production and employees.
Digital technologies in enterprises – AI, IoT, robotics, blockchain, cloud computing: functions, sectors of implementation.
Datafication of business processes – concept and its value addition to enterprises.
Operational areas and technology roles – production, sales, logistics, HR, marketing.
Changes in business models – emerging models due to digitalization.
Digital strategies for enterprises – building effective digital transformation strategies.
Barriers to digital transformation – preparing organizations and employees for change.
Digital maturity assessment – practical use of Assessment Tools.
The course employs a workshop approach (learning by doing), with students systematically preparing a final research report for a selected enterprise. Work methods include:
Interactive lectures.
Case studies.
Workshops on digital maturity assessment (Assessment Tool).
Team analysis of an enterprise.
The course integrates results from recent research projects on digitalization and AI implementation across sectors, including findings from the AI4Retail project (retail sector transformation) and digitalization in hospitality and gastronomy. It also employs methodologies from the EDIH project on mapping enterprises' digital maturity and preparing them to implement advanced technologies.
The instructor, Prof. Katarzyna Śledziewska, directs DELab UW and authors scientific publications and reports on the digital economy and enterprise transformation, managing research and applied projects for businesses and public institutions in digitalization.
