Point and line pattern analysis in R 2400-ZEWW935

The analysis of regional economic phenomena which uses aggregated data often produces incorrect results, as it does not take into account space features, spatial heterogeneity, neighbourhood structure and so on. Spatial econometrics overcomes this problem. Analysis of point and line patterns requires specific - geo-localised - data and specific statistical packages.
Point and line data have a wide range of economic applications (business locations, transport economics, real estate market, etc.).

The following topics will be discussed in the course (number of classes dedicated to each topic to be provided after the first class):

Intro to spatial point pattern analysis, package spatstat::, example applications in a current literature (both teachers)
Spatial data - introduction, creation, visualisation
Point patterns – creation, visualisation and basic operations
Point patterns: classification, analysis of type I and II properties
Point process models (Poisson process, Gibbs processes, possibly Cox/cluster processes)
Line patterns: definition, visualisation, point pattern on lines
Spatio-temporal analysis
Article analysis - presentation (1 or 2 last classes – dependently on how many students will be on the course)
