Name of the course Business Intelligence in Tableau in Business Practice 2400-ZEWW933
The course is dedicated to data analysts and those involved in preparing analysis and data visualization. The course topics include familiarizing students with Tableau Desktop Professional (data processing and visualization) and Tableau Online (server version). Tableau is the most versatile and all-encompassing tool in the BI area, and one of the two most widely used in companies. The course is for anyone who wants to understand data. During the course, you will learn how to easily import various data sources and perform the necessary transformations and data connections. You will learn how to easily and intuitively create interactive dashboards that can be refreshed in real time. The Business Analytics in Tableau course will provide you with new skills for working with data and increase your competitiveness in the job market.
Course topics include, but are not limited to, the following:
1. database connections: connecting to Tableau Server, connecting to different data types (.xlsx, .csv, .json), merging tables from one or more databases, preparing data for analysis (blending, metadata editing, pivot, union, data interpreter), connection types (Live/Extract), separating data.
2. data organization: filtering, sorting, grouping, hierarchies, sets (sets).
3. Creating charts and fields: Tableau terminology (measure and dimension), discrete and continuous fields, fields automatically generated by Tableau; different types of charts, including histogram, heat map, tree map, bullet graph, combo chart, scatter plot, data table (cross tab), bar in bar chart, box plot; use of chart titles, captions, tooltips, axis editing, use of data labels.
4. Performing calculations: text and date manipulation, creating Quick Table Calculations, level of detail expressions (LOD expressions), working with aggregation, logical expressions, sums and subtotals, calculations for joining tables.
5. Working on maps: navigation, custom territories, geographic search, modifying locations inside Tableau, importing and managing custom geo-coding, using a custom background as a map, connections to geographic data.
6. Creating interactive dashboards: building dashboards and stories (stories), creating actions in dashboards, designing dashboards for different devices, using best practices for creating dashboards, publishing.
7 Tableau Online: operating Tableau Online server, publishing reports as dashboards on the server, managing roles, administration.

Note 2: the course is part of the educational path "Analytical dashboards using Business Intelligence tools", upon completion of which participants receive a certificate. Details on the WNE UW website (Student> Educational Paths).
Note 3: It is possible to take the courses "Business Intelligence in Power BI in Business Practice" and "Business Intelligence in Tableau in Business Practice" in one semester. Both courses consist of 6 blocks of 5 teaching hours each and will be implemented one after the other. The "Power BI ..." course by the end of March, and the "Tableau ..." course from the beginning of April.
Note 4: The software version in the course is Microsoft Office 2021 or later (language version: Polish, operating system: Windows). Using an earlier version is possible, but it may cause some difficulties. The English language version is not a major problem, but the course a different operating system is (e.g. MacOS) due to the limitations of the Office suite (possible lack of necessary software components). The University of Warsaw does not provide participants with the necessary computer hardware or software.

You will be able to navigate Tableau freely - importing data and creating data connections, preparing data for analysis and building visualizations. You will learn not only how to create charts, but also when best to use them. You'll get tips on data visualization such as using the right colors and making charts more readable. Thanks to the course, you will learn the latest trends in the area of business analytics (Business Intelligence) and be able to create professional interactive dashboards that can be used by thousands of people on the web.
