Dashboards and Power Excel Tools 2400-ZEWW837
In recent years, due to the continuous increase in the volume of processed and analyzed data, business analytics has become increasingly important. The ability to quickly perform analyses and clearly present their results (e.g. in the form of dashboards) is extremely valuable, regardless of the position held in the company. Microsoft Excel provides great opportunities in the area of strongly developing Business Intelligence in the form of appropriate tools and add-ons, ie:
- Power Query - allows you to efficiently import, transform and combine data;
- Power Pivot - allows comprehensive creation of a data model, based on which reports and statements are generated;
- Power Map - is used to visualize data on maps.
These tools offer a lot of advantages related primarily to speed, efficiency and interactivity, compared to standard spreadsheet functionality, and familiarity with Microsoft Excel's BI tools is becoming an indispensable element among the skills of data workers.
For whom: The course is dedicated to people who are familiar with Excel, work on large data sets or often perform data visualizations creating so-called management cockpits (dashboards), and want to learn how to quickly and efficiently import, process and present data and create various types of reports.
Topics covered in the course include discussion of creating dashboards (taking into account the presentation of data on different types of charts and dynamic ranges of data), learning how to use Power Query tools (importing different types of data formats, transforming data, adding custom fields, merging data), Power Pivot (creating a data model, as well as constructing pivot tables based on the data model), Power Map (using geolocation to visualize data on maps, saving created maps in the traditional way and in the form of 3D visualization).
Note 1: elearning form of classes on the platform: https://elearning.wne.uw.edu.pl (complete class materials with solutions and instructional videos explaining the issues discussed - no live classes).
Note 2: the course is part of the educational path " Analytical dashboards using Business Intelligence tools", upon completion of which participants receive a certificate. Details on the WNE UW website (Student> Educational Paths).
Note 3: It is possible to take the courses "Effective Data Analysis in MS Excel" and "Dashboards and Power Excel Tools" in one semester. Both courses consist of 6 blocks of 5 teaching hours each and will be implemented one after the other. The course "Effective Analysis ..." until mid-November, and the course "Dashboards ..." from mid-November.
Note 4: The software version in the course is Microsoft Office 2021 or later (language version: Polish, operating system: Windows). Using an earlier version is possible, but it may cause some difficulties. The English language version is not a major problem, but the course a different operating system is (e.g. MacOS) due to the limitations of the Office suite (possible lack of necessary software components). The University of Warsaw does not provide participants with the necessary computer hardware or software.

Learning outcomes
The student gained the ability to create advanced reports using Power Excel tools presented in the form of dashboards. Topics of the course included the creation of dashboards (taking into account the presentation of data on different types of charts, using Power Query tools (importing different types of data formats, transforming data, adding custom fields, combining data), Power Pivot (creating a data model, as well as constructing pivot tables based on the data model) and Power Map (using geolocation to visualize data on maps, saving created maps in the traditional way and in the form of 3D visualization). Thanks to the course, the student knows the latest trends in working on data, creating reports and visualizing the obtained results, and is able to create professional business applications in MS Excel.
