The seminar covers the following topics:
1. Scope of VAT (chargeable events, territorial scope, taxable person, including VAT grouping, taxable transactions)
2. Place of taxable transactions (place of supply of goods, place of supply of services, place of supply of international transactions: place of intra-Community acquisitions, place of importations)
3. The charge to VAT (chargeable event, taxable amount, including adjustment for non-receipt [bad debts relief], VAT rates)
4. VAT exemptions
5. The right to deduct input tax, including VAT adjustment
6. Administration of VAT:
a. Obligations on taxable persons (Identification and registration, Invoicing [e-invoicing], accounting, including cash registers and returns [Standard Audit File JPK_VAT], recapitulative statements, split payment, tax representatives
b. Special schemes (small undertakings; farmers; margin schemes for tour operators, second-hand goods)
c. e-Commerce rules
d. Tax refund system for travelers
e. Cross-Border VAT claims (EU & non-EU procedures)

Learning outcomes
Upon completion of the course, the student knows what risks are associated with VAT in connection with running a business and how to manage them. The student knows the rules determining VAT taxation in running a business. The student knows the benefits and costs of voluntary registration for VAT purposes, the principles of VAT taxation as well as administration requirements related inter alia to documentation and reporting obligations. The student also knows the consequences - under the provisions of the VAT Act - of failing to fulfil tax obligations as regards VAT.
The student will be able to calculate the VAT, explain the basis of this calculation, apply VAT planning techniques to the enterprise and anticipate the tax consequences in this area in any uncomplicated potential business situations.
The student correctly identifies and resolves tax dilemmas in VAT related to conducting business activity. The student can improve the acquired knowledge and skills to broaden it to the extent required by work & professional activities.
Assessment criteria
To complete the course, the student must pass a written exam. The exam is divided into two sections: Section A consists of 10 multiple choice questions, either theoretical or short calculations (each question is worth 1 point), and Section B consists of 3 open questions (each question is worth 10 points). The passing threshold is 50% (20 points).
