The goal of this course is to present advanced techniques used in the process of creating reports in Power BI, with a particular focus on optimizing report performance, best practices, data visualization that is clear to the audience, and publishing analyses in an interactive format on the Power BI Service portal.
Course topics:
✓ Configuring the Work Environment
Configuring the work environment in Power BI Desktop and tools that support work in Power BI.
✓ Connecting to Various Data Sources
Connecting to databases (Oracle), connecting to data in the Power BI Service (Dataflow, Dataset).
✓ Optimizing and Streamlining Power Query Queries and the Data Model
Loading tables, building dictionaries, handling duplicates, data model design theory (fact tables, dimension tables, and additional tables), relationship types and their management, creating advanced custom columns.
✓ Advanced DAX Functions
Row and filtering contexts and how to change them; creating advanced measures and calculated columns (using commands such as CALCULATE, SUM, SUMX, FILTER, ALL, SELECTEDVALUE, RELATED, USERELATIONSHIP, DATEADD, DATESYTD, SUMMARZECOLUMNS), building functions in DAX (using the VAR + RETURN syntax), creating measures using the IF and SWITCH functions, creating text measures, and formatting DAX code.
✓ Effective data visualization
Color scheme selection, report layout planning, built-in automatic buttons and navigators, use of tabs and selection views in creating dynamic visualizations (dynamic filter panel), the Field Parameters option, creating tooltips, use of the analytics panel in visualizations (adding trend lines, data forecasting, anomaly detection), effective work with tables and matrices, advanced visualizations (decomposition tree, Q&A and Key Influencers, Smart Narrative, custom visualizations).

Tailoring reports to business needs, tips from real-world business applications.
✓ Power BI Service
Publishing reports, user roles and permissions, Row-Level Security, managing data refreshes, building analytical dashboards.

Participants gained the ability to independently carry out the entire report creation process—from connecting to data, through creating a data model using advanced Power Query and DAX functions, and effectively visualizing data, to publishing and managing the reports they created. They learned about real-world applications of Power BI in business and are now aware of best practices for report creation. They learned how to optimize data using Power BI to effectively manage large datasets.
Assessment criteria
An independent assessment task to be completed by the participant upon course completion. A minimum score of 50% is required to pass.
