The goal of the session is to simulate a day in the life of a data analyst through workshops with participants and to use data to answer sample business questions.
Course topics:
✓ Data Analysis
Useful built-in functions in Oracle. Analytical functions: window functions, reporting functions.
✓ Advanced Database Objects
Uses and types of indexes and partitions in a database. Views, materialized views. Uses of temporary tables.
✓ Query Optimization
Query plan analysis. The role of the optimizer and database statistics. Methods for reading data from tables.
✓ Advanced SQL Syntax
Regular expressions and their applications. Pivot tables. Row constructors. Hierarchical queries.
✓ Daily practice of an analyst
Best and worst practices in writing code. Exercise in independent analysis of a business problem. The difference between a database and a data warehouse.

Learning outcomes
Participants learned efficient methods for writing SQL code that enable the effective processing of large volumes of data from relational databases and data warehouses. They acquired the ability to write advanced queries, using an Oracle database as an example, which allows for the optimization of data-driven business processes. They also learned about a range of business applications for SQL and how to create analytical reports. As a result, they are now able to build various types of reports that enable the business interpretation of information contained in the database and have seamlessly entered the world of data analytics, acquiring skills that are highly valued in today’s job market.
Assessment criteria
An independent assessment task to be completed by the participant upon course completion. A minimum score of 50% is required to pass.
