Contemporary Approaches to Management 2400-PPMG011
In the first semester of the seminar students will be asked to state the topic of the thesis, they will get to know the technique of working skills, they will do their own research, read the recommended literature and the one selected by themselves, they will present the topic of the thesis together with the preliminarily formulated questions concerning the research, they will decide on research methods essential in finding solutions to particular problems. What is more, students will be familiarized with formal rules of writing a thesis and they will be asked to apply them in the first chapter of the thesis. They will also present a thesis plan, aims and key arguments of the thesis together with suggested application methods and start the research.
Theses topics:
– Change management, changes as the stable element of the strategy of enterprises, the preparation of the firm to the initiation of changes, premises of the choice of the management idea
– Business Management in programs of organizational changes, ideas managements basing itself on processes: Business Process Reengineering, Business Process Improvement, Business Process Orientation, Business Process Management
– The management with the effectivity of processes of the business - Process Performance Management
– The management with relations with customers and building of permanent relations with customers - Customer Relationship Management, the orientation on the customer and the approach of a law suit, defining of processes of the interaction with customers, the management with the knowledge - Knowledge Management
– The management with relations with suppliers, Supply Chain Management, the process of the information flow between all partners in value chain
– Information technologies in the management with the organization, workflow systems, systems of the class Enterprise Resource Planning, systems CRM, systems SCM
– Project management initiatings of the system of information technology to the organization, the premise of the choice of the system, decisions make or buy, the preparation of the organization to initiating
– The idea of the extended enterprise, X-engineering - defining of interorganisational processes, the integration of business information systems
– Japanese ideas quality management - Kaizen, Total Quality management, Just in Time
– Building of the competitive superiority - quality management of the value chain
– Techniques and methods helping practical usage of present ideas of the management: benchmarking, outsourcing, the meaning of the human factor in the process of changes
– New concepts in the area of managerial accounting

Learning outcomes
Knowledge
A student’s knowledge includes: knowing and understanding the essence of the current concepts of management; knowing the whys and wherefores of their use by organizations; being aware of how to define research foci and how to pursue studies involved in writing a master’s thesis; comprehending the course of hypothesis testing process; being able to use the relevant texts and empirical material; knowing the formal principles of drawing up a master’s thesis.
Skills
The skills to be acquired by a student embrace being able to: conduct conscious research of the relevant literature including stands by a variety of authors; perform a source analysis and handle particular empirical material; put questions and advance research hypotheses as well as adequately select methods for the revision of their validity; juxtapose and combine the findings to arrive at the relevant conclusions unassisted.
Social Competences
A student is able to inspire and organize the process of learning within a group as well as properly determine the priorities to be worked towards while getting ready for the writing of a master’s thesis, a natural objective to be pursued at the seminars; a student is also able to consciously extend their knowledge and broaden qualifications unassisted.

Assessment criteria
A credit for a class will be received on the basis of the initiative on the part of students, a presentation of a selected research topic that might be included in a thesis as well as on the preparation of the general synopsis of work and writing the first chapter of the thesis (a preliminary version).
