People and economy 2400-PL3SL159A
The aim of the seminar is to allow students to prepare a bachelor thesis. The envisaged thematic scope of the theses will cover the relationships between various demographic factors and characteristics and economic mechanisms. In particular, the theses may cover:
1. The impact of the processes of aging on the labor market;
2. Consequences of discrimination (for example of women) on the labor market;
3. The impact of emigration on structural changes in the economy (for example, sectoral changes);
4. The impact of demographic indicators (fertility, marital status) on the functioning of the labor market;
5. Possibilities of forecasting economic growth with the help of demographic factors (demographic variables as "leading indicators");
6. The impact of 'remittances' on the economies of the sending countries;
7. Relationships between the economic situation of the host country and the demand for foreign labor.
The methodology will include literature analysis within a given thematic scope, and (optionally) include preparation of a formal model and / or an empirical model that verifies claims or hypotheses or provides the basis for forecasting.
The first classes will be devoted to the presentation of formal requirements for bachelor's theses and rules governing writing scientific texts. During the following classes, we will discuss the outlines and progress of the students participating in the seminar (presentations).
