Theory and Practice of Financial Markets 2400-PL3SL060A
During the seminar we will discuss features of finacial markets (FX markets, stock markets, bond markets, derivatives markets, commodities markets). Theoretical and practical aspects of modern market activities, instruments, institutions and operations will be presented. Students will learn about analytical methods and empirical approaches.
Subjects of BA dissertations can cover topics on stock exchanges, OTC markets, derivative markets, behaviours of market players (behavioral finance), consolidation processes on financial markets, transformation of international markets financial services, economical impact of capital account liberalisation, banking and capital systems integration, Euro introduction, banking, currency and financial crises, banking efficiency, financial development and economic growth.

After completing the course, the student:
IN TERMS OF KNOWLEDGE:
Knows the basic principles of conducting scientific research, as well as the structure and formal requirements of a bachelor’s thesis.
Is familiar with basic research methods relevant to the discipline of economics and with the principles of selecting literature and data sources for a diploma thesis.
Understands the role of research hypotheses, models, and data analysis methods in the process of preparing a diploma thesis.
IN TERMS OF SKILLS:
Can formulate the topic, objective, and preliminary research questions or hypotheses of a diploma thesis.
Can search for, select, and analyze relevant literature and collect the data necessary for completing the thesis.
Can prepare a preliminary plan for the diploma thesis and begin developing selected parts of it.
IN TERMS OF COMPETENCIES:
Is prepared for independent and systematic work on the diploma project, with respect for academic integrity and ethics.
Is open to substantive feedback from the supervisor and seminar participants and is ready to critically evaluate their own progress.
