The main topics covered in the course include:
-Definition of a business process, classification, and structure of processes.
-The role of the process approach in organizational management.
-Objectives and tasks of business process modeling: types of notations, tools, and platforms for process modeling.
-Basics of BPMN notation: BPMN elements (events, activities, gateways, flows, artifacts), business process diagrams, principles for creating clear and correct process models.
-Methods for identifying processes within an enterprise and building a process architecture; system analysis and selecting areas for modeling.
-Process modeling in BPMN: creating business process models using BPMN 2.0, workflow modeling, collaboration and communication between process participants (pools, lanes), modeling subprocesses, transactions, exception handling, and escalations.
-Supporting models in process modeling: work environments/organizational structures, modeling risks and threats in business processes, document modeling, IT environment modeling.
-Measuring and evaluating process performance indicators, process decomposition and improvement, methods for assessing process maturity in organizations.
-Practical applications of process models in organizations.
As part of the course, students will work with selected IT tools dedicated to business process modeling.
The course concludes with a graded assessment consisting of a practical modeling assignment using the system and a team project. Student performance during in-class modeling activities and homework assignments will also be evaluated.

Learning outcomes
A) Knowledge: The student knows and understands the importance of the process-oriented approach to organizational management. The student is familiar with BPMN notation and the fundamentals of other process modeling standards.
B) Skills: The student is able to independently gather information about process flows from various sources and model and interpret business processes using BPMN. The student can use selected IT tools for process modeling and is capable of analyzing and reporting on business process flows.
C) Social Competences: The student is able to collaborate and work effectively in a team during process modeling projects. The student can expand and improve their acquired knowledge and skills.
Assessment criteria
Activities during classes, including active participation, are assessed. Homework assignments on process modeling are required. There is a practical modeling assessment and a final team project.
In-class activities and homework assignments (30%). Practical assessment in BPMN modeling (40%). Team-based process modeling project (30%).
