Education and labour market - empirical research 2400-ENSM096B
Initial classes in the first semester will be devoted to the topics:
1. Organization of work during the seminar.
2. Introductory lectures: 1) Human capital - what it is and how it can be measured; 2) Why is it worth to invest in human capital - theoretical perspective; 3) How to measure the effect of investments in human capital.
3. Potential topics of MA theses.
4. Review of research and sources of information on the labor market.
5. The construction of the master's thesis.
Subsequent meetings will be devoted to the presentation and discussion of individual work carried out by students, including:
- the topic of MA thesis,
- basic theories relating to the research question,
- a review of empirical research relating to the research question,
- results of student's research.

Learning outcomes
After the course a student:
1) is familiar with the basic issues concerning the link of education and labour market,
2) knows the techniques of collecting information and identification of useful literature,
3) is capable of constructing and conducting an empirical research with the use of individual-level database.
Assessment criteria
The credit will be given on the condition of:
1) in the first semester: development of the master's thesis concept and submission of at least one chapter,
2) in the second semester: conducting own empirical research and developing its results,
3) in the third semester: submission of the final version of the diploma thesis.
