(in Polish) Experimenting with economics 2400-EN3SL308B
In analyzing the phenomena of economic life, it is not a problem to obtain information but to interpret it. Every day, the amount of economic information reaching the average citizen is growing. This information is sometimes contradictory and unreliable, which generates information noise. One of the most important skills that should be acquired by students of economic universities is the critical analysis of the information obtained, usually in the form of statistical data. Students while writing a thesis do not have to be familiar with very sophisticated econometric or statistical models, but it is desirable that they be critical of the presented issue. The purpose of student work is to point to sources of inefficiency. Preferred topics are:
1) Microeconomics used mechanism design: impact of market structures on the results of enterprises, pricing policy, efficiency analysis, asymmetric information, microeconomics of banks,
2) The use of experimental methods.
The aim of this seminar is also to gather people who deal with topics that go far beyond the mainstream of economics and enable them to prepare their theses in line with their interests. These topics include:
1) Sociological and psychological approaches to the analysis of economic behaviour;
2) Research from the borderline of anthropology, psychology, sociology and economics;
3) Open Source software and computational economics

SKILLS
• Is able to analyze basic economic texts independently and critically.
• Is able to carry out the entire research process: he can independently put a research hypothesis, economic theory, adequate to the goal set in research work, can verify the research hypothesis, can search for data, apply the description of statistical or econometric modelling, can present in writing and pass the whole process as a thesis.
SOCIAL COMPETENCE
• Is critical of present economic problems and strives to rationally explain surrounding economic and social phenomena, learns to think, speak and write in a logical and consistent manner
• Thanks to individual work with the supervisor, he/she can properly determine the priorities in conducting research and writing work.
