Youth, language, contemporary culture
The seminar will be concerned with language as the source of knowledge
about man and contemporary culture, its transformations and new sources
of social communication.
Topics taken up during the course will be related to cultural and
psychological conditioning of verbal communication, transformations of
contemporary language, and linguistic communication of the youth. We
will take a closer look at new tendencies observed in contemporary
Polish language ? expansion of colloquial speech, visualization of the
message, as well as other related issues: linguistic communication in
the Internet, linguistic creativity in advertising, language and
persuasion. New areas of persuasive communication, fashion and snobbism
in linguistic communication, self-presentation through communication,
communication in new media as an element of youth culture, school slang
in the age of information technology revolution, linguistic manipulation
in the media; as well as: Can we think outside language? (linguistic
image of the world), and: Does a culture of the written word still
exist? (transformations of the contemporary model of communication).
