Independent culture in Poland and in the world 2300-S2-MKiSE-KN
The seminar aims to familiarize students with broadly understood independent and alternative cultures. As part of the seminar, we will want to look at their culture-forming and educational role and their relationship with the media. At least since the moral and cultural breakthrough of the 1960s in Poland and around the world and in connection with what is referred to as the "new spirit of capitalism", alternative cultures have become important areas for culture as such and for "cultural industries" or creative industries. During the classes, we will try to explore the history of alternative cultures together with their more important manifestations in a historical perspective. The classes will also discuss various forms of alternative cultures with particular emphasis on their changing nature. In addition, we will also want to see how such activity (especially in the context of education) looks like in practice.
The classes will be based on the following key points:
1. What is alternative and independent culture?
2. Historical forms of alternative cultures;
3. Alternative cultures on selected examples;
4. Educational dimension of independent and alternative cultures;
5. Independent media circulation;
6. The relationship between alternative cultures and the "mainstream";
7. Alternative education and culture
