Module: Alternative Education in Theory and Practice 2300-S2-MEA
The aim of the module is to present basic issues, conceptual categories and theoretical contexts and practical assumptions of alternative education. Students will learn about contemporary models of alternative education and types of alternative schools in Poland and around the world; they will familiarize themselves in detail with the assumptions of Freinet pedagogy (taking into account pedagogical techniques, and in particular the technique of free artistic expression: plastic, technical, musical and movement), they will learn about the methodology of work in socio-cultural animation. They will explore a selected system of alternative education and implement practice in an alternative education institution.

In terms of knowledge, the student knows and understands:
1. contemporary positions, theories and pedagogical concepts in the field of alternative education, along with their sources (K2_W01);
2. mutual relations between theories and models of alternative education and the consequences resulting from this for practical educational activities (K2_W02);
3. history, structure, functions and principles of creating and operating alternative education institutions (K2_W06);
4. principles of implementing inclusion in the context of activities conducted using artistic education methods in educational and artistic institutions (K2_W08);
5. didactic methods specific to alternative education (K2_W12).
6. standards, procedures and good practices used in alternative education (K2_W13);
7. the role of the educator and tutor in modeling the attitudes and behaviors of children and youth and ways of motivating and overcoming educational difficulties in the space of alternative education (K2_W14).
In terms of skills, the student is able to:
1. analyze the theories and related concepts in the field of alternative education (K2_U01);
2. observe, analyze, design, implement and evaluate educational activities and programs in the alternative space, taking into account the appropriate methodology and the needs of various social and age groups (K2_U02);
3. analyze the current state of knowledge and seek new pedagogical solutions in the artistic space (K2_U03);
4. develop creativity, artistic production and the ability of independent and critical thinking of children and young people in the educational and artistic space (K2_U13);
5. work in the educational and artistic space with people with special educational needs (K2_U14).
In terms of social competences, the student is ready to:
1. critically evaluate the knowledge they have in the field of alternative education and further develop in this direction (K2_K01);
2. using the knowledge of experts from various fields and when designing activities in the area of alternative education (K2_K02);
3. taking independent action to organize the educational environment and cooperate with various entities from the area of alternative and artistic education (K2_K03);
4. analyzing and drawing conclusions from the activities of alternative education institutions (K2_K04).
5. active participation in cultural and social life, showing concern for the culture of the language and initiating cultural activity of others (K2_K06);
6. working in the educational and artistic space with people from different backgrounds and with different emotional conditions, resolving conflicts through dialogue and creating a good atmosphere for communication in the group (K2_K07).
Assessment criteria
1. Portfolio:
- prepared in a digital version with interactive materials
- presenting the alternative education institutions visited
- containing an essay on a specific topic related to alternative education.
2. Preparation of the content of a post from the alternative education institutions visited to be placed on the social media of the course.
3. Participation in a specified educational project.
The final grade from the module is the resultant of the average of the grades from the module components and points 1 - 3.
