European Traditions of the Contemporary Education 2300-OSM/48/1
How we think about education today are affected not only by the political, socio-economic and cultural events of the last years, but also by the educational tradition dating back from the Antiquity, the Middle Ages, the idea and educational practice of the humanism and the Enlightenment, the nineteenth and twentieth centuries history in Poland and Europe. But what is this "European heritage"? In recent years, especially the word "Europe" is sometimes overused, often becomes banal, boring slogan. However, it is hidden in the real wealth of content - including the provision of childcare. The purpose of the M.A.-seminar is to examine and analyze of the European educational traditions in historical perspective, to realize the extent to which our thinking about education is rooted in tradition, and that is innovative, original and genuinely new. How and why change the image of the child, childhood and upbringing? Is it possible to notice any patterns? Is it true that you think about your own happiness adult has a direct impact on the next generation of educational practice? These and other questions will try to find your own and critical response to our meetings and open discussions.
The purpose of the seminar is to acquaint students with the methods and workshop of the humanist work and preparation for writing scholar essays, articles and and thesis. Classes should forme the independent and critical skills of analysis of sources, specific to the educational and humanist interpretation of events and educational processes of the past, the use of reference materials and studies in order to obtain an independent test of the synthetic image issues. Forms will be studied primarily educational reality, their evolution under the influence of pedagogical ideas, political, cultural and socio-economic.

Learning outcomes
During the seminars, students will learn the methods and workshop of the educationalist and humanist. Classes are monographic character, presenting the key issues of education and childhood reality in the European history. The seminar is at the students’ ability to shape the depth of thinking and get acquainted with the humanist critique of the different types of sources (theoretical treatises teaching, textbooks, journals, moovies, etc.). The aim of the seminar is also learning how to practice writing a research methodology (at the master's thesis), skills of critical collecting of materials from libraries, archives, in the Internet, as well as their independent and critical development. The purpose of seminar is also developing the skills of critical reading and on the aspects of the scientific debate on the subject.
Assessment criteria
To pass the seminar, in addition to an active presence in the classroom, it is also the regular queries, preparing presentations, work credits (essays), and various pieces of work for the future thesis. The primary endpoint is the scope of the thesis conducted queries, and above all, the ability to develop original and critical material.
