Primary education - its past and present 2300-NUSM1-AF
Seminar is devoted to the primary education - both in its past, as well as its current form. We believe that the current arrangements, both theoretical and institutional, of kindergartens and primary schools, have their conditions in the experiences in the past. Among the factors that will be examined are: educational ideologies of teaching, style and methods of teacher work, the nature of the communication process between the teacher and the pupils, a monitoring of children development, motivation to learn in the opinion of pupils and teachers, cooperation with parents, and the culture of the educational institution. The aim of the seminar is to prepare students for the skills of independent conclusions and opinions on the education of man, and in practical terms - to independently write a MA-thesis.
During the seminar, the student should be familiar with the most important principles of the preparation of the MA thesis, it is should be able to formulate and put into practice:
1. The purpose and problems of the MA thesis, stages of implementation,
2. The form and arrangement (structure) of work,
3. Uses various sources of information on primary education now and in the past,
4. Methods of theoretical (humanistic - also from history of education methods of research) or/and empirical educational research,
5. The choice of subject and its understanding,
6. The concept and self-thesis plan,
7. The technique of writing and defending a MA thesis (MA exam).
Suggested thematic scope of master's theses:
1. Classics of pedagogy and contemporary early education.
2. The social address and forms of early education in the past and today.
3. Early childhood literature - in social, economic, religious, etc. contexts.
4. Didactic and educational recommendations at the level of early education in the past and today.
5. Child - family - initial education in the 20th century social media / propaganda (literature, schoolbooks,movies, etc.).
6. City - town - village - social, economic and spacial contexts of education.
7. History of didactic innovations: Comenius, Pestalozzi, Bell-Lancaster, New Education, Free University of Warsaw, Korczak etc.

Learning outcomes
Student can:
1. design and concept to justify his/herself MA thesis,
2. participate in the discussion during the seminar, to be able to present and defend their thesis concept and research to be carried out,
3. work in a team of other participants of the MA seminar - to be able to learn from the mistakes of others and his/her own,
4. put into practice the knowledge of the methods of educational research,
5. prepare a plan related to the implementation of the master's thesis topic,
6. independently write and defend his/her MA thesis.
Assessment criteria
1. Preparation of the state of discussion and research on a selected area of education on the basis of literature and pedagogical magazines (1. semester seminar)
2. the preparation of the first version of the MA theme and concept of the master's thesis (2. semester seminar).
