Turning Points in the History of Education - English B2+ 2300-NU-KJO-AF
The main purpose of the classes is to discuss selected texts in English, to prepare presentations (in PowerPoint) and papers in English.
Subjects are devoted to the selected, turning points in the history of literacy in Europe: from the Middle Ages up to our days, with a special attention to the 19th and 20th centuries.
Educational ideas and practice has undergone a serious of important changes in that time. The study of some of these developments will allow a deeper insight into the history of education and its impact on the particular feelings of identity in several countries. As far as possible, specific problems of the history of education will be discussed in relation to the history and politics of the home countries/nations of the participating students.

Classes of a monographic character present educational and historical key problems in the educational theory and practice from the Middle Ages to the 20th cent.
Course aims to develop critical thinking skills, familiarize students with educational and historical criticism of various types of sources (educational treatises, textbooks, movies). Moreover, classes develop critical reading and academic discussion as well as opinion making skills.
Assessment criteria
Conditions to earn a credit for the course are as follows: attendance, active in-class particiaption, regular preparation accoring to the reading list, and papers.
