Introduction to sociology 2300-MWŚN-WS
The aim of the seminar is to introduce students to basic sociological issues and theories. Subsequent classes are subordinated to introducing key issues for sociology, such as society, social facts, identity, homeland, foreigners, conflict, power, relations between society and culture, and postmodernity. Reading and joint interpretation of many classic texts is to help build a foundation for the sociological analysis of reality, not only the educational one.

Learning outcomes
In terms of knowledge, the student knows and understands:
- basic sociological concepts;
- at an advanced level the place of alternative education, socio-cultural animation in pedagogy and other sciences, taking into account knowledge of the basics of sociology.
In terms of skills, the student is able to:
- analyze pedagogical problems in a sociological context;
- analyze the theories and related concepts from the field of pedagogy with particular emphasis on alternative education, socio-cultural animation;
- analyze the pedagogical achievements in the area of alternative education and socio-cultural animation and discover new educational paths taking into account contemporary socio-cultural and psychological conditions and civilization changes.
In terms of social competences, the student:
- critically evaluate the knowledge held in the field of alternative education and socio-cultural animation due to the dynamic development of pedagogy and its subdisciplines, which translates into the need for permanent personal and professional development.
Assessment criteria
- attendance (two unexcused absences allowed),
- 2 written assignments (each approx. 3 standard pages long),
- activity during classes (high activity exempts from the second written assignment).
